competition:

This could have been quite exiting if written at the right time...
We've submited 3 songs (Allez! Allez!, Mes Fantômes and Tomayziyi) to the International Songwriting Competition in the world music category at the end of 2005 and got the 3 of them got selected... good start!
Then the 3 of them went into the semi-finals... not bad either! And Tomayziyi, often our lucky star in the past, stood in the finals with 12 other songs... and filled us of hope and excitement!
Those 13 would now go to the quite impressive judges panel to be judged (funnily enough).
That was in February and we were told the results would come... in March, not the 1st or the 31st, just in March!
So we waited untill the 31st and, you would have surely understood by now, we didn't win the 1st place nor the second... and even less the third! If you wish, you can listen to the winners and the other finalists here

Interviews:

We went down to Manchester to be part of "Michelle Around Midnight" on BBC GMR on Monday 7th November.
Jerry and Anna sang "Hail Africa" and "Bomosagee" acoustic and were interviewed... a good birthday present for Jerry!!!

The week after Zuba were featured on "African Essence", Debbie Golt and Anne Wanjie's 15th Nov program on Resonance 104.4fm in London. Jerry was interviewed on the phone about the presidential election in Liberia and the band. You can listen to the program here

compilations:

Freeness Volume 1

Zuba are really proud to be part of the first Freeness compilation and experience.
Touring to ten major cities in England from January to March 2005, open submission nights were held, inviting musicians to come and air their new ideas, unreleased or unpublished songs, work in progress, remixes and edits. Appealing to those whose work is created on laptops, in bedroom studios and sampling sequencers, Freeness provides the opportunity for the raw energy and diversity of grass roots music production to be taken out of isolation, brought into the open and shared with an audience.

Zuba were lucky enough to be told by Mike Purcell @ Concrete Recordings in Manchester who kindly submited Tomayziyi to the Freeness night there.
After their tour, the Freeness team had next to 2000 tracks to choose from to produce a double CD compilation and choose us to be on it, but funnily enough they choose the opening track "Allez! Allez!", which we were glad of, "Tomayziyi" having been part of 2 compilations already.

And soon more to come... watch this space!
